Speech Therapy for Kids in Hoboken, NJ
Bringing speech therapy to you! We provide services at your home, your child’s daycare or preschool, or at select community locations.

Evaluations
Before we begin therapy, we start with an evaluation to understand your child’s strengths, needs, and goals. Evaluations are done at home or in your child’s educational setting and typically include:
Parent interview to understand your concerns
Play-based and standardized assessments
Screenings for speech, language, and oral motor skills
After the evaluation, you’ll receive a detailed report and a clear plan to move forward with confidence.
Our Approach
Therapy is fun, relaxed, and focused on real progress. We take a play-based approach, using your child’s interests to guide our activities to keep your child engaged in the learning process.
You might find us on the floor making animal noises or laughing through a game while targeting speech goals. We work just outside your child’s comfort zone to keep things motivating and effective.
Parents will get weekly updates, resources, and ideas for carryover at home.

AAC Evaluations & Therapy
What is AAC?
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It’s a way to support individuals who aren’t able to speak verbally—or who benefit from additional support—by giving them another way to express themselves. AAC often involves speech-generating devices, but it can also include signs, gestures, or pictures.
We believe AAC should be used as an invitation, not an obligation. It’s one of many tools your child can use to connect, play, learn, and be heard.
Our Approach to AAC Therapy
AAC therapy at Hoboken Speech Stars is playful, individualized, and child-led. We model how to use the device naturally, alongside speech and gestures, during meaningful activities. Sessions often include sensory play, literacy activities, and your child’s favorite topics or characters.
We work in your child’s real-world environments—at home, at school, or virtually—and collaborate with parents, teachers, and other therapists to make sure AAC is integrated into everyday life.
Every session is grounded in respect for your child’s preferences, strengths, and communication style.
AAC Evaluations
AAC evaluations help families find the right fit for their child.
We start with a parent interview to learn about your child’s history, needs, and goals
We observe your child in a familiar and calm setting
We try out a few different AAC apps to see what your child responds to best
If your child is a therapy client, we use a trial device over multiple sessions to guide decisions
After the evaluation, you’ll receive a report, recommendations, and guidance on next steps for funding or device access. We stay involved throughout the process, offering training, setup support, and collaboration with schools or insurance providers.

AAC can be helpful for autistic children and children who are minimally- or non-speaking.
A good candidate is a child who shows interest in communication, even if it’s just through eye gaze or gestures. We also look for interest in screens, the ability to select icons, and a desire to use the device to interact.
Even kids who are starting to talk may say more and express themselves better using AAC.
-
AAC gives your child a way to express themselves when speech alone isn’t enough. It allows them to share their thoughts, clarify wants and needs, and reduce frustration.
Many children end up speaking more over time when they have access to AAC as it supports both expression and understanding through visuals, audio, and repetition.

Yes. We specialize in iPad-based speech-generating apps like Proloquo2Go, TouchChat, LAMP, and TD Snap.
We also consult on low-tech options when needed. Our approach focuses on giving your child access to a robust vocabulary that can grow with them, with keyboard access when appropriate.
-
We provide hands-on training and make sure you feel confident using your child’s device.
We show you how to model AAC, customize buttons, take photos, and support communication at home and in the community.
We also help coordinate with schools and offer tools to make devices easier to carry and use.

Yes. Once a device is obtained, we offer follow-up training for parents, teachers, and therapists. We walk you through the application, best practices, and how to personalize the setup for your child’s interests, daily routines, and school activities.
